Map Functions

GoldStar uses maps powered by Bing, so all standard map functions apply. You can zoom, pan, and change the view to Road or Bird's Eye.

Vehicle Event Icons

When a vehicle event or location is placed on the map, it is shown as a colored circle icon. The center of the circle has an arrow that shows the direction the vehicle was headed and will be one of the following colors:

  • Red - The vehicle was stopped at the time of the event.
  • Green - The vehicle was moving at the time of the event.
  • Blue - The device did not have a valid gps lock when the event was sent. This means the device wasn't certain of its location at the time, so it sends the last known location. Blue event icons indicate that the location data is older than the associated event time.

Event Details Popup

Clicking on a vehicle event icon opens a popup window with more information about the event:

  • Event: Type of event the device sent (e.g. Auto Report, Locate, etc.)
  • Local Time: Time the device sent the event, displayed in the time zone of your current browser
  • Speed: How fast the vehicle was travelling when the event was sent
  • Position: GPS latitude and longitude of the event. This provides a more precise location in case the vehicle is in a remote area, or there is not an exact address available
  • Location: Address where the vehicle was when the device sent the event. This information may be approximate.
  • Odometer: Estimated odometer of the vehicle. This value is a sum of the user-defined initial odometer and the GPS odometer of the device
Note: The GPS odometer is an estimate, and should not be relied on as an exact odometer value.

Below the Odometer estimate are the following links:

  • Locate: Sends a Locate command to the selected device.
  • History: Opens the History tab for the selected device.
  • Print: Opens a new, printer-friendly window with a map and details of the event. Clicking the Show Vehicle Information link at the bottom of this window will show all fields of the vehicle information if you want to include them in the printout.

At the bottom of the event details popup are three icons for device health. Older devices may not send the data needed for these indicators, so may show as unknown

  • Battery: Good/Fair/Poor indicator for the voltage of the car's battery. Hovering over the battery icon shows the exact external voltage the device is receiving.
  • Cell Signal: Good/Fair/Poor indicator for the strength of cell signal reception for the device
  • GPS Signal: Good/Fair/Poor indicator for the strength of the GPS signal reception for the device. Hovering over the satellite icon shows the exact number of satellites the device is connected to
